Total cost of materials includes charges for raw material and supplies; cost of fuels consumed for heat and power; cost of electricity used for heat and power; and the cost of contract work for the establishment. Contract work refers to a fee one company pays another to perform a service. A - symbol reflects that the data is not provided by the source. A w symbol indicates that the data was withheld because estimates did not meet publication standard and a # indicates the data was withheld to avoid disclosing data of individual companies. A ! means that the sampling error exceeds 40 percent.
