General Notes: *Median value gives the value for the "average" county for this metric, the 50th percentile of all counties reporting data. **Elderly is defined as age 65 years or older. A # symbol indicates an enrollment count of 10 or fewer, which are suppressed to meet CMS Privacy guidelines. This data represents aged enrollee counts of Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance) - "aged" is defined as persons 65 and older who meet qualifying standards to enroll in the Medicare program. Part A is an insurance program that protects against hospital and post-hospital services such as inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care; Part B is a voluntary insurance program that covers physician services, outpatient care, ambulatory services, medical supplies and services, durable medical equipment, some home health care services, and preventative services for aged and disabled persons who choose to enroll.
