    General Notes: **Counties with a "1" are designated as a Nonspecialized County. For 2015 data, a "1" indicates the county was not a farming, mining, manufacturing, government-dependent, or recreation county. For year 2004 data, counties that did not meet the dependence threshold for any of the specialized industries. For years prior to 2004, the ERS only classified nonmetro counties by their economic specialization and policy-relevant type. For year 1989 data, counties not classified as a specialized economic type over the three years from 1987 to 1989 and are entitled "UnclassifiedFor 1979 and 1986 data, any nonmetro county which fell into none of the listed specialized economic types. Listed as "Unclassified counties."
