    General Notes: **Counties with a "1" are designated as a Services Dependent County. For year 2004 data, counties where 45 percent or more of average annual labor and proprietors' earnings derived from services (SIC categories of retail trade; finance, insurance, and real estate; and services) during 1998-2000. For years prior to 2004, the ERS only classified nonmetro counties by their economic specialization and policy-relevant type. For year 1989 data, services activates contributed a weighted annual average of 50 percent of more labor and proprietor income over the three years from 1987 to 1989.
